Can you use Suica on JR lines : The Suica is a prepaid e-money card for moving around and shopping. There is no more need to buy a ticket from a vending machine. Just touch your Suica to the ticket gate and the fare is automatically deducted from your Suica. The Suica can be used not only for JR East trains, but subways and buses as well.

There are about nine private train companies besides JR in Tokyo alone. If your destination is on the Keikyu line or the Odakyu line, you're gonna have to pay extra.In addition, the Shinjuku line is a metro line, so not included either. Instead, you could use the Narita Express to Tokyo station with the JR Pass, and from there use the JR Sobu line to Bakuro-yokoyama and finally from there the Toei Shinjuku Line (Metro) to Funabori Station.

Do I need both JR Pass and Suica card : So the next Question is, should I get a JR pass, Suica or both That really depends on how much you will travel long distance, I did Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and back to Tokyo and I had both cards, JR for the major trips and Suica for small local trips.

Is Suica and JR Pass the same

Just to clarify the difference: The JR Pass is one ticket, or pass if you will, for unlimited travel. While SUICA is an electronic payment method, called an IC card, and does not provide any discount on itself.
